Andy's EPIC Road Trips in Europe

EPIC Road Trips across Europe by Country

Here's a selection of travel journals to a number of European destinations, and please forgive my very flexible, and entirely apolitical definiton of Europe given that I have included trips to Georgia and Turkey. I have been to many European places, but my travel experiences pale in comparison with those of my friend Tony; Phileas Fogg, Michael Palin and Paul Theroux rolled into one. The man has spent half of the last 40 years travelling around the globe, clocking up an impressive 112 countries. Handily for us, his camera and notebook were always with him and Tony has kindly offered for some of his road trip journals to be published on this website. Tony is based in ... where exactly are you at the moment Tony?
Tony Steurer
Albania
Not so long ago, this was Europe's final frontier until the stone-age rule of Enver Hoxha finally came to an end. But the country is catching up fast. Get there before everyone else does.
Belarus
Discounting Russia, this is Europe's last dictatorship and thus not on everyone's radar. But Alexander Lukashenko will not live forever ....
Georgia
A country at the intersection of Europe and Asia where Caucasus mountains dwarf the Alps.
Ireland
The Celtic Tiger roars and is spectacularly beautiful along its often wild Atlantic coast.
Montenegro
Home to 600,000 people, this country packs quite a lot into a tiny area, in particular the awesome Kotor Bay, which is the focal point of this tour.
Portugal
On the cliff edge of western Europe, and formerly one of the world's biggest empires, the small Iberian country exudes charme and beauty.
Romania
By all means, wander in the footsteps of ficticious Count Dracula. But there is so much more ...
Scandinavia
A road trip through Denmark and southern Sweden with the starkly beautiful Bohuslan coast as its centrepiece.
Spain (North)
Green Spain. The place were sane Spaniards escape to from the summer heat. So should you: mountains, beaches, wine, cider (ok, maybe not that one), food.
Spain (Central)
For culture lovers in a setting where Moorish influence on European civilisations is at its strongest.
Turkey (West)
Cultural, culinary and architectural treats follow thick and fast on either side of the Dardanelles Strait.
Turkey (East)
Where Europe meets Asia in this vast, and rapidly developing country.
Ukraine & Moldova
Putin thought he could capture one of Europe's biggest countries in one afternoon. A sad reminder what is at stake.
